Industry Cluster Innovative Academies (ICIA)
The Texas Education Agency is supporting Industry Cluster Innovative Academies (ICIA) across Texas prepare students for the workforce in four of the high-demand fields designated by the Texas Governor:
- Advanced technologies and manufacturing
- Biotechnology and life sciences
- Information and computer technology
- Petroleum refining and chemical products
The TEA, Texas Workforce Commission and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board collaborated to develop the academy model as a way to fill Texas jobs with Texas workers in industries that are driving the state’s economy. The basis for selecting these industry clusters is their contribution to the economic development of the state of Texas and specific regions. Students who complete the program will be prepared to join the workforce for the dominant industry in their region. ICIA provides Texas students the opportunity to get high paying jobs in their own state, and allows Texas industries to employ skilled homegrown workers.
